Cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancers and chronic respiratory diseases are the significant NCDs that have been affecting people’s health in Uganda and the world over. The prevalence of NCDs is closely linked to socioeconomic conditions, ecological environment, culture, customs, and lifestyle. There is a general lack of awareness of NCDs and their risk factors, many more people are sick or dying silently in their communities than those who report to health facilities. Screening for early detection and treatment prevents unnecessary death and complications
NCD programme focuses on screening non-communicable diseases, which contribute to the biggest burden of disease and keep poor communities out of high health risks. The programme targets to conduct NCD screening and referral campaigns targeting poor communities in the districts of Iganga and Jinja, through quarterly NCD Health Camps.
